10 reasons to choose a Studio Tuft handmade rug
There are lots so many reasons to shop a handmade rug from Studio tuft here are the 10 ten reasons…
A tufted rug is a piece of functional art for the floor
One of the first things we do when turning a house into a home is fill our walls with photos and art prints, adding our own personal style and bringing colours and life into every room.
But why stop at the walls? A hand-tufted rug allows you to add even more personality and individuality into your room, with a statement piece of art that lives under your feet.Rugs have the added bonus of being renter-friendly, and can cover up a tatty carpet or millennial grey wool and laminate too!
I love to choose a rug that includes colours found in my wall art, but isn't too matchy matchy. The pastel cheque rug below is a great addition to nice person's kitchen as the orange matches the tones of the woods, and the mustard yellows tie in with the kitchen tiles too! These tufted rugs are unique and one of a kind
Theres something special with knowing something is one of a kind, owning something unique that you cant find anywhere else. Have you ever been to your friends house and realise you have the same tea towels, cushions or even rugs? You thought you had something individual but it turns out to be ordinary, Studio Tuft rugs are anything but ordinary they are distinctive artisan heirlooms for your home.
These tufted rugs are the perfect way to show your personality in your home decor weather you want to make a bold statement or bring a room together.
A rug can bring a room together bringing all the quirky object and colours together with the floor covering. The Black Mallow rug below compliments all the ceramics together with the white floor creating a dynamic monochrome feel. The irregular paint brush style motif is inspired by singularity of the design.
As everything is done by hand even commissions have a fresh feel each time I make them, weather that be slightly different placement or marginally different colours, all the rugs are one of a kind.
Studio Tuft rugs are super thick and have a deep luxurious pile
Imagine getting out of bed and squishing your feet into a soft lovely piled rug, it’s a great start to the day. I use a 1/2 inch pile as standard for all my rugs, this makes a really decadent feeling rug to walk on and I always get comments on how thick the tufted rugs are. I use a tufting gun which is connected to a compressor, this really packs the wool into the backing fabric giving it that dense feel.
‘It looked so comfy that I lay down in front of the fire on it and ended up waking up a hour later, it was a great nap!’
The pile of a rug can really add a level of elegance to your home interior design, above the green cheque rug looks thick and plush in front of the sofa creating a feel of soft and cosines in the living room. The chunky pile is a real treat and one of my personal favourite things about the rugs.
4. Every single Studio Tuft rug is made my me in my studio
Your not just buying a rug your supporting a maker, a small buissness owner, an artist and actual human being. In the age or computer generated machines and AI I can confirm that every single strand of wool has been put there deliberately by my hand (through a tufting gun) every design is tufted with my hands and every design comes from my mind.
The designs that I produce are ever evolving with what inspires me and the way I tuft is unique to me and cannot be replicated, the patterns I design and hand tuft are all unique and what I like to refer to as functional art.
It is lovely to buy and support a person where you can see what it is going into and who.
5. All the materials I use are sourced from businesses in the UK
Here at Studio Tuft I try to be as socially conscious as possible which is why I source all my materials from business’s in the UK and more local to me in Gloucestershire when I can. I believe most if not all of the products I use are produced in the Britain and supporting small family rug businesses.
Supporting small business’s is important to me which is why I buy my wool from a wool traders and my backing fabric and latex from a one man company who sold me my tufting gun both in Yorkshire.
6. All rugs are made using sustainably sourced materials
I use sustainably sourced dead stock wools to make my rugs, this is how I find such interesting colours. These remnant wools happen when large companies order large amounts of wool and there is often a bit left over, this is what I buy. These are good quality rug wools that are a surplus, I go to the warehouse once a year or so and rummage around picking up odd bits of colours here and there.
Not only is this practice better for the environment but it is a lovely way to make work, to be inspired by the colours in front of me and choose what I find interesting. I may never have thought of that petrol blue colour un till I saw it on a shelf.
This is a sustainable way to order wool as I am not dying wool or getting it dyed just using up what already exists and giving it a home.
The blue Ocean rug below is make up of 20+ blue wools, I had varying amounts left from different projects and new shades too all made from colours saved and made into something beautiful for the home.
7. They are hardwearing
Studio Tuft rugs are made for the floor, one of the most asked questions are ‘do people actually walk on them?’ and the answer is Yes! honestly I do get a lot of reports that in the first weeks the new rug owners find themselves tip toeing on it or squeezing past but soon after they are scrunching there feet into it!
The rugs are made with 80/20 rug wool meaning they are made with wool specially made for rugs, 80% natural wool fibers and 20% acrylic man-made fibers to give it the durability to be stood and walked on.
They are designed and made for the floor and for walking on!
8. These tufted rugs are easy to care for
Owning a hand tufted rug is easy work, nothing special needed. Studio tuft hand tufted rugs are super effortless to look after, I recommend hoovering once a week or when needed. Just DONT put them in the washing machine and check out my Care Guide for any more info needed.
I hoover the big rug in our bedroom once a week and the rug in our hallway which is next to the front door where muddy shoes often get left on it once a week too but brush it with the dustpan and brush in between mid week or if there was an extra muddy walk.
9. The edges on Studio Tuft rugs are hand sculpted
Have you noticed that Studio Tuft rugs seem to flow in to the floor? Well you would be right, I hand sculpt the edges with duck billed scissors to flow organically in to the floor. This is one of the most time consuming parts of finishing the rugs but I think it is worth it and is something that really makes my handmade rugs stand out amongst others making hand tufted rugs. I think it really adds to the quality of the rug
You can see in the Love rug pictured below that the edges are soft and naturally shaped. I have perfected this skill throughout the time I have been tufting.
10. These hand tufted rugs are sheared to give a professional finish
Every Studio tuft rug is hand made but they have the feel of a professional quality rug, this is because I use a flat plate shearer to finish off the top of the rug. This is what really elevates the handmade rugs to a higher standard. All of the wool strands in the tufted rug are cut to the same length which creates that high caliber look of the Studio Tuft rug.
In conclusion the designs are all unique and one of a kind but the way they are made and the quality control is always the same, that is what is great about the Studio Tuft tufted rugs they are unique artistic and individual but with the twist of professionality and quality.
PS pets love them, they always become there favourite napping spot!
